Pilot training in AAA quality
Many of the future European commercial pilots will be trained at the Aviation Academy Austria. Michael Graupp, for example, has been working as a pilot for an airline since last August. Flying is a childhood dream of his. The Austrian studied at the Austrian Aviation Academy (AAA) near Vienna. The training centre is supported by the European Cohesion Policy: "At the age of 14, I was allowed to fly to Tenerife in the cockpit. I saw all these switches and so my dream came true to become a pilot. At the age of 19 I started my flight training at the Aviation Academy Austria, which I successfully completed after two years. Half a year after my training, I got my first job at Eurowings and am very happy with it," says Michael Graupp.
Training at the Aviation Academy Austria
Every year, 2400 pilots are trained at the Austrian Aviation Academy, on which 75 flight instructors work. The Academy has a total budget of 37.7 million euros, of which slightly more than 2.7 million euros come from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Jessica is currently training at the AAA training centre in Wiener Neustadt: the training airfield offers a large selection of modern aircraft and a simulator. For people like you who start from scratch, the training takes around two years. "Today's flying lesson goes to the Spitzerberg Air Sports Centre so that I can practice landing on grass. Normally you land on concrete runways, but we also practice with grass landing areas, I'm excited about the difference," says flight student Jessica Wong.
